A definite concern, IMO, even though Bob got away with it.

I made the mistake of heating the can lightly with a torch, to try to drive
off any lingering fluif and get better paint adhesion.  Unfortunately, it
was enough to melt the solder in the seams, and cause a leak.

Sorry, don't recall offhand what I used for washers when reassembling.
