Let's see - $40 plus shipping vs. $5 plus 10 min of your time (to make 
your own spring compressor).

Seems about even.

Seriously, I'd be concerned that the extended length would allow you to 
mount the thing like we need to do (on the top of the upper spring 
perch).... If the tool isn't long enough, you'd have to try catching the 
spring itself and there's not much space around the spring in the upper 
spring perch on the TR6 front end.
