Ben, I used blue RTV (car is blue) on mine.  Even tho I used it 
sparingly it still squeezed out and made an unsightly mess with which 
I'm still dealing (when there's nothing else to do... hahaha).  I 
believe the seal is snug enough to warrant omitting the sealant.  That 
said, if your seal leaks, this discussion never took place.
