[TR] oil problem

I have a rebuilt tr250 motor that is using a lot of oil. Can anyone tell me what the readings should be on a compression gauge? Not sure whether it's the rings or the valve guides but something is wrong. There is enough oil coming from the rocker arm cover to saturate the air filter that is nearest to the hose. Any ideas? Haven't checked the compression yet but plan on buying a gauge tomorrow.
