I like your solution! Problem is that I have a 12 year old daughter and
I already wore her out on an hours worth of working the clutch and brake
pedals up and down while bleeding both systems :-)

I played with it a little more after I wrote the email and I also wonder
if it will get better with some use. At one point, I was in neutral and
it wouldn't release at all. I shut the engine off, put it in reverse and
started the engine back up. The clutch let go as the engine started kind
of like the disk was stuck to the flywheel or pressure plate.  It acted
just like my old John Deere crawler tractor does after sitting all
winter, only it had been sitting for 10 minutes.

It seems to fit Randall's suggestion of the disk binding on the input
shaft. I wouldn't image that rust is an issue as it hasn't been
assembled long enough, but I am not sure if I tried the fit of the
splines  before I assembled the clutch. I think I will drive it a bit
and see if it improves.
