[TR] cars for kids

I struggled greatly with this when my daughter turned sixteen and wanted /
needed a vehicle.  Do I buy her a beater (or just shy of one) or buy  new with
dependability?  I would have been a basket case if the beater broke down and
some Samaritan gave her a ride and she never came home.
