I recall Bob Schaller installed his behind the grille.  Crossing Texas in 
June he made some roadside 'adjustment' to the grille to combat overheating:

Yes, that dark patch is the hole he cut on the grille in front of the oil 
cooler.  OTOH, he was pulling a trailer in 100+ degree heat.
