[Tigers] Carburetor Question

I will be starting surgery on my stock 2 barrel tomorrow.  There's what
seems to be an odd instruction concerning the accelerator pump discharge
ball. The instruction says to use a brass drift and a hammer to seat the
ball.  But the next instruction says the ball shall be free in the bore.
What are you seating the ball in?   And if it's being seated in something,
how can it be free?  Does it have to pop through some restriction
or something?    Inquiring minds want to know...
