Joe

Here are some pictures.

1 shows the spacer

2 shows the top of the rivet

3 shows the bottom of the rivet – this photo was taken with a mirror

Best guess – this is a nickel plated semi-solid rivet – stainless steel rivet might be better if available

You would need to determine the diameter and length of the rivet and spacer by measuring your parts.

The spacer also looks like it is nickel plated, nickel plate is less expensive than chrome.

I had to put that screw in the handle. The handle originally had a stem that ended in a rounded over end, like the rivet you described. When I took the whole thing apart I had to grind off that rivet head. When I put it back together I was able to drill and tap the remains of that stem and use a small screw to put it all back together.

You could probably use a spacer and a small screw. It looks like you already have a screw on the "handle" side,

my "handle" has a rivet top not like yours.

My top is an early one, yours looks like the late one though...

Well, it is dark here but probably not as cold as where you are. I took a shot from the outside of the open quarter window. Indeed, looks like a rivet and spacer is missing on yours. Hope this helps. Kirk

Joe

Getting a picture without taking it off is difficult plus it is cold and dark now.

Parts List shows

5240538 Spacer

5240539 Rivet

Spacer looks like a chromed tube.

Top of rivet looks like chrome too.

Hey,

I recently restored my hardtop and had all of the hardware rechromed. To get the best results I took everything apart as much as I could. When it came time to put things back together I had a little problem with the pins that hold the vent window latches together. I think I used a small nail or maybe some welding rod, but whatever I used has fallen out. In the photo below I have circle the parts that need to be pinned together.

So my question is, what is the "right" way to do this. Like I said, I tried something like a nail or welding rod but whenever I tried to peen over the ends, the pin would buckle in the middle. I tried using a press and tapping with a small hammer. But there must be a right way to do this.

Help,

Joe Brown
