[Tigers] Air Cleaner Gasket

I’m guessing the gaskets are about 3/8” wide.   This seals only the back 3/8” of the original paper air filter.

I believe the original filter is 1” wide.   The rest of the air filter is open to air flow.

See picture below from Work Shop Manual Section C – pg. 27 – diagram is clearer in the Manual.

Ron,

 

I thought the gaskets were there for a better seal to stop dust etc getting past the accordion folds of the paper AC filters. Most modern filters ( like even 1970s) have a rubber gasket top and bottom to seal the filter to the housing.

It would be nice to know the width, thickness and material used for that gasket.

 

I thought it was interesting that the air filter cantilevers on the 2 gaskets so more filter area is exposed for more CFM.

Jim you mean a gasket in the recess where the air filter element seats? 

There were originally flat oval gaskets in the recess that the paper AC element would sit into... I dont believe they should have been glued in though.

Does anyone have a good part number/source for the 5 inch gasket that goes between the stock air cleaner and the stock 2 barrel carb?  It's got to be standard old Ford stuff, somewhere.
