                If the exact copy does not fit and the original does – there has to be a measurable difference between them.

It would be great to understand that difference.

It was a 1/2" spacer my friend bought.  He had to use a dremal tool to modify it to fit.  He got it from Jegs or Summit.  There are probably others out there that don't need modification.   He was kind of upset. He had spent $500 or so on the air cleaner. $300 to get it chromed and $400 on a new carb and the exact copy didn't fit, but my original did.

How tall of a spacer do you need? Trying to minimize the overall height.

Haven't checked that yet, but it should.  The cast aluminum Tiger air cleaner that matches the valve covers came with instructions stating it needed a 1" spacer.  That air cleaner hits the same spot on the carb as the new sheet metal repro does.

Repro bought a few years back.  I can’t tell the difference to be honest.  Really nicely made.

Alan: Yours looks very much like mine, but your paint is in better condition than mine.

I also shot my photos in natural, non-glaring lighting conditions.

(I shared three photos in an earlier Email today.)

The more I look at my Air Cleaner in outside, cloudy light, and then at your photos, the more I could be easily convinced it is Hammertone.

Here a few pictures of the bottom piece of one of my air cleaner housings.

This housing came off a Mk1 Tiger and went on a shelf exposed to the elements where

It sat for years - until I bought it at a “yard sale” for 60 bucks, along with other Tiger parts.

I believe the paint is original - what’s left of it.

The paint appears to be alligatoring and falling off.

The pictures were taken with a DSLR camera using natural light from a window to the right 

There is no “hue” from an incandescent or florescent bulb, or any light bulb..

Perhaps someone can tell if the finish was hammertone.

The color must be the factory color as toned by the years and weather.

Interestingly, my air cleaner housing which is in rough shape but appears to have original paint still on it definitely is NOT Hammerstein type of paint. It is a slightly  blueish grey closer to the convertible top frame but slightly  bluer
