Not what I expected but that is the nature of these quests.

We need an open mind to evaluate and understand original parts.

this is a pix of 1/4 inch plywood piece from an all original MK1A, has the two securing screw that are offset from center line, 9 inches apart, it is 2 3/4 inches wide and 13 inch long...I took these pics today from a known original car...clyde McLaughlin
