[Tigers] Trunk wood + some other thoughts from an 80 (minus 4 months now) year old geezer...

Ahh, yes! Shipping would be easy, just fill a tank and ship it. But the real issue would be getting the right composition of air from Coventry – it would have to be investigated to determine the exact amount of pollutants and other airborne contaminants that were present in the 60’s before air capture for the tank. Has to be authentic “air”. The air could have more CO2 today and it was cooler then, after all it is about 50 or so years younger in the era the cars were assembled.
All in good fun here … I wished I had kept my car pristine, but, feckless youth had me do a bit of coach work customizing. Basis running gear is as shipped from merry olde England, however. Wishing I had some Coventry air and Beech wood … And maybe some of that Lucas smoke to refill the electricals….
Have owned my car since 1967 (second hand at that) and the heads and intake have never been off of it. Have a 5 bolt 289, 30 over bore and ported heads with the small cc chamber and pop up pistons that I need to rebuild … has the hipo stuff inside.
Reminiscing now… I once was in a 3 car “convoy” from Bakersfield headed back to Santa Maria. We left separately but soon got together on Highway 46. I had a tank of gas when I left, virtually empty in Paso… Corvette and Mercedes were surprised by the fact that not only did I keep up, but arrived first, lol… about 90 miles in an hour.. Passed the place where 46 junctions to go to Fresno and where Jimmy Dean bought the farm. Box Stock everything then…

LOL
I know a guy that would put ‘Coventry’ air in his tires if he could figure out a way to ship it… !

Well, if the drawing is to be believed, the side piece is made from Beech wood and so mahogany just will not do at the concours judging, eh? And to top that off, will the correct Beech wood have to be grown in the UK where it was most probably, likely, sourced from? Has to be authentic, eh! Points can be lost otherwise…
Kinda laughing a bit…

Ron,
I believe there was only two wood pieces.
Only one under the battery on the inboard
side (in the depression on the floor).
I seem to remember it was plywood and my
plies had become separated and deteriorated.
Paul Reisentz had the wood reproduced for
his restored cars and there is a supply left.
The next time I go there I will measure them
as well as get them available. I can’t guarantee
they are perfectly correct but I would
bet on it!

A good question has come up.
Should there be 2 pieces of wood in the trunk associated with the battery?
There is 1 piece screwed to the body at the side of the battery.
Was there originally a 2nd piece of wood under the battery tray?
I put plywood under my battery tray to get the battery mostly level with no rocking.
If there is a 2nd piece of wood – what are the dimensions?
