My Smiths voltmeter came from (IIRC) a Triumph that was being parted out. The trim ring was painted black, but the paint came off easily and it polished up nice. I opened it up and painted the pointer orange to match. I installed it in the clock hole, using a clock blockoff trim ring to adapt it to the larger hole size.

DO NOT mess with what look like adjusting screws. You will never get it back in calibration.

Here's the gauge that fried. Unfortunately, I broke off the needle taking the thing apart to see if it could be repaired. I think I'll use this as a host for a Voltmeter conversion, since I'm not excited about all the power running through a gauge in the dash anyway. When the shunt opened, the car lost all power at 70 mph in the left lane of the freeway. No more engine, no more turn signals, brake lights, anything. Quite exciting. Has anyone converted one of these, or do you just buy an aftermarket voltmeter and install it. I kind of like the idea of it at least appearing factory.

Answered my own question: After WWI, the British subsidiary (British Jaeger) of Jaeger of Paris secured the manufacturing rights to the chronometric mechanism and manufactured these very reliable chronometric mechanisms at a factory at Willesden. In 1927 British Jaeger was purchased by Smiths Industries Limited.

All the standard spec gauges are british jaeger. The optional clock was smiths and the ammeter lucas. The lighter was a casco.

I'm not even close to being the original owner of my Tiger. I bought it in 2000. My ammeter completely cooked and I'm considering a replacement or switching to a voltmeter. My question is, who was the original manufacturer of the gauges for an early MK1? The gauges in my dash are Jaeger, but I have some Lucas gauges in the spare parts that came with the car. I see lots of Lucas gauges on ebay, but not Jaeger. Thanks for any insight.
