[Tigers] Convertible Top's Plastic Window

Doug Robbins (who designed the soft top for the Tiger) says adding a zipper to the current design would lead to wrinkles in the top. The entire design would have to be changed in order to properly support a zipper soft top.

A big reason that they all have plastic windows is quite obvious by the shot of the very early volks convertible... they have a VERY small rear window and the tops folded down like a pram sitting on the back of the car.

While some modern cars have split glass rear windows in the tops so the glass can fold into a smaller space.. glass generally needs to remain flat and not be forced into a small space when folded.

You could probably make a Sunbeam with a zip-out window like some MX5's (miata) or some other more modern convertibles.. but size, folding mechanism and likelihood of impact are main reasons they are not often used.

In a Facebook Jalopnik article, author Jason Torchinsky expounds on "Why Was This OK" in reference to the application of substandard plastic rear windows in convertible tops of almost every auto manufacturer except VW.

As he explains: " No matter how amazing or expensive or well-built the car one of these plastic windows was stuck on, sooner or later the window would cloud up and get filthy and more and more opaque, until eventually it’d yellow and crack" and "But there’s also questions for the convertible-buying population of the time, specifically, why did anyone put up with this s***?"

Having recently replaced my own Tiger's convertible perfectly useable top specifically because of a no longer transparent rear plastic window, I'd like to know if there is even the option of having the rear window replaced with a new glass or plastic window. I would have gladly paid extra for a top without a deficient plastic window.
