Russ,

Ron is right.  I had the same problem when my Tiger was factory new.  I
remember sitting at an intersection and trying to get into 1st gear.
Finally put it back into reverse and then back out and all was well.
Follow everybody's advice about linkage alignment, but I think that the
problem will never completely go away - it's the nature of the beast.
