>>>CHANGE THE TIMING GEAR FROM NYLON/ALUMINUM TO STEEL<<<

And for the small increase in cost, I’d recommend a roller chain over a link chain.

Examples (used 1965 Mustang in search - it list “289 and up.” If 260 is different please correct):

Pay attention Mk 1A and Mk 2 owners to info from Dr. Ron Fraser !!!

If you have the face of the engine off, CHANGE THE TIMING GEAR
FROM NYLON/ALUMINUM TO STEEL
It IS an interference engine.

It was one of those better ideas to quiet the chain noise.

I’m sure Ford tested it extensively and I’m sure it ran fine for their tests but it did not take into account time, years of time.

I don’t know when Ford changed back to steel, my reference material only goes to 1969 and it still shows nylon teeth.

Ford started using the nylon teeth on an aluminum hub March 1965; prior to that it was steel gears.

Do you mean they started using nylon teeth or changed from nylon teeth, Ron?
