[Tigers] Fuel Filters

Pricy is of course a relative term. You might consider an Earls 230206 filter, rated at 80 microns and flowing around 4-5 gpm. They cost $34 plus shipping at Summit Racing. However, they have a stainless steel mesh filter element that can removed and cleaned and reused. So longer term, they become less expensive overall compared to replacing a throwaway filter every time. On the other hand of course, how often are we really going to be doing that...?
Not sure what your pump of choice has in the way of end fittings. This Earl's filter has -6 AN male fittings on each end. You can buy - 6 AN female to female couplers and then go to a -6AN to -5 AN reducing union with male fittings on both ends to get down to a 5/16 connection. I think Russell makes a kind of a compression fitting that will adapt a 5/16 line to a -AN fitting if that was needed. Of course that all that adds to the total initial cost and increases the space needed a bit. Not sure how that all would fit into your total plumbing scheme of course or the connections you need to make to the pump and input line. Anyway it is a possible solution.
I would echo Tony's point about vibration hardening and cracking of solid lines connections. I uses a short piece of rubber line to connect to my pump in the trunk to help with vibration. The pump is mounted with vibration isolation bobbins and the output line is a steel braded rubber line connected to a bulkhead fitting attached to the trunk wheelwell wall. Again for vibration/noise control. So I have flexible lines (of a sort) on both sides of the pump. Also having a piece of rubber line in the input side makes the initial installation and subsequent removal of the filter a lot easier.
BTW, I also installed a fuel shutoff valve between the tank and the filter. Probably something you would want to do regardless of how you decide to do the rest of your install.
Just my 2 cents.

Subject: [Tigers] Fuel Filters
It must be all the snow up here in the northeast. Ibm getting ideas againb&
I want to move the fuel pump on my Mk1A to the Mk2 location, the tire well
in the trunk. Ibve got a new Facet ready and waiting. Ibm trying to sort
out the layout in my mind, having seen the various custom layouts in photos
that some of you sent the first time I started thinking about this. But
here's the thought that keeps going through my mind...
Ibd rather not have any rubber fuel lines in the trunk.. Steel lines only,
less likely to have an issue. But I want to use a prefilter, that Ibd
rather have protected in the trunk, too. So I started looking for fuel
filters with threaded fittings on their inlets and outlets. I found a few
for fuel injected systems, Bosch stuff, Porsche stuff, etc. But those are
likely metric, and Ibd rather stick with something I could easily adapt to
the 5/16b (IIRC) standard fuel line.
I know therebs a pricey Fram filter for racers, but Ibm thinking there must
be something else. A cheaper something else. Any ideas out there?
Stu
