[Tigers] Tiger 1A nomenclature

Actually there a bit more of a twist to the 1964 289 heads.
There is a casting date code just above that 64. The date code is
just as important because the 1964 Ford model year runs from Aug 1963 to Aug
1964. --- Got to know your date codes.
More of a twist, Ford changed the configuration of the 289 head in
the Feb/ March 1964 time frame to incorporate larger valves. --- We like
bigger valves.
Even more of a twist, Ford started casting the 1965 289 heads in May
1964 and to top that off, Ford changed the style of the cast in Ford logo
from Ford in a oval to FoMoCo in a rectangle to distinguish the early 63/ 64
heads from the late-64 heads.
Details, details, details; its all about the details.

A slight aside...on '64 289 heads, the date is right under the breather cap
on the driver's side (with Tiger valve covers). Picture, anyone?

I was having the heads done on my Tiger 20+ years ago...the guy doing the
machine work asked me if I wanted to sell the heads. I asked him what was
so special about my 289 heads- he pointed out the '64 date stamped on them
and said 64 1/2 Mustang guys would kill for those heads on their
restorations. I passed on the offer, but smile when I think about it!
