[Tigers] MKII charging problem

I have a MKII with an ongoing charging problem. At times I get 13.7 to 14v -
other times a little under 12v. Alternator is good, voltage regulator is fine
and connections are good. It has been suggested the 6RA relay (which is
apparently unique to the MKII) could be the problem. What does this relay do?
Can it be repaired? (what values?) Bypassed? Replaced?
