[Tigers] Non Tiger-Bakelite Repair

I have a piece of a door handle/release lever that is  a poor design.  It 
breaks about every 6 months.  The GM dealer says  there is no improved part 
and they sell a ton of them:-)  It is some kind  of hard plastic very similar 
in texture to the old bakelite we are used  to.
 
I've tried epoxy, but it doesn't seem to grab on to  the bakelite.  Is 
there any kind of a primer that might help or is there  another repair substance 
that I might try?
