You can't make paint stick to a cast iron exhaust manifold. They were always a light rust colour. You can have them ceramic coated in satin black though. That looks good. You can also spray them with Graphite lube spray and wipe it with a rag. That gives a clean gray finish that;s easy to touch up if you ever need to.
