Mike, I'm glad you're modified version of my suggestion worked for you. Jeff Kelly

When I cupped my hands all I got was a mouthful of gasoline fumes. Instead, I had an MG shift gaiter that has an opening at the bottom large enough to seal over the filler neck and the other end of the accordian shaped gaiter opening diameter is shift lever size. Perfect for blowing into. It worked! The pump immediately changed tone and frequency. You could tell it was moving fuel to the front of the car. I applied full choke and pulled the starter knob. The engine roared to life for two or three seconds and stopped. After that not a cough out it. I can't get it started, but I think I may have more problems. The setup on my 1275 is a single HIF 44 carb. I have a clear plastic filter just before the carb. You can see fuel in the bottom half of the filter as usual. All this time the pump did not stop pumping. Usually it will stop when the float bowl is full. The problem is the bottom of the float bowl is all wet on the outside with fuel. It is dripping on the exhaust header! Not good. The car has been sitting for several months while I rebuilt the suspension, steering and the brakes. Shut off valve in the carb stuck open? Float sunk? Don't think I will be able to make the British car show at Woodley Park in the Valley tomorrow.
