Iirc, the sizes refer to the diameter of the throttle butterfly, which as  Ron said are pretty close, however the hif44 has a significantly larger mouth than the hif6..

1.73 vs 1.75. Basically identical.

HIF6 is 1-3/4 bore.  HIF44 is 44mm.  I think they are close enough to be interchangeable for street applications.  IIRC, they share many of the same components.  Seems like they just went metric at some point and made 44s instead of 6s.

And I have the dimple in my bonnet to prove it!!   The HIF44 and HIF6 appear to be very close.  Mine came with the car. Anyone know who is the guru for this setup??

I agre e with Rick.  Webers are good for flat out racing, not stop and go on the street.  The 1275 in my Bugeye has had a single HIF 44 carb for several years now.  The engine runs great.  It's simple to tune and no going crazy trying to balance the carbs.  One thing about a single HIF carb, don't use the Mini intake manifold.  It's the wrong angle and will contact the bonnet.  APT sells the correct manifold for a Sprite/Midget.  Just my two cents.Mike MacLean
