The process that was originally used on the surround trim was called Brite Dip and it was an anodizing process.  There are several anodizing companies around the country that know the process. The shop I used for my Bugeye is Ano Brite in the San Fernando Valley. Ano-Brite, Inc Superb Aluminum Finishes

Another way to get a similar finish is to have the trim polished then clear powder coated.  Leaves a close second to Brite Dip and the powder coating is a durable finish.  Nice to hear form you Bob.Mike

 Hi Linda,
The Al frames and cockpit surround were originally done by some type of process that made them have a more polished silver look.  Mike McLean probable remembers what it is called.  Some years ago he found a company still doing that coating but it was expensive.  It also would scratch fairly easy.  Now days polishing and clear anodizing is probably most common although some folks just polish the frames and surrounds and claim they stay looking good with out vey much effort.  I can not attest to that claim.  Anyway if they are anodized then there is not much you can easily do to change them.  Anodizing Al gives you a coating of AlO2 which is the same as sapphire and diamond is the only thing harder than sapphire.  It is possible to re-polish the fames but not an easy task.
I did an article and several classes on rebuilding sliding side curtains back about 2000 and will send you, and any one else interested, that write up.

Hi Guys,I'm happy to say I am finally ready to install my rubber seals on my side screens and I'll assume they are anodized because polish isn't doing a great job. Tips please what should I use? BTW I cut the plexyglass by hand in 2008  after tracing the old set and couldn't figure how to get them in the track so I showed it to Frank and he pushed them in! I was amazed at how easily he did that and still to this day can't figure it out.Spridget Powered,Linda62 California Sprite "Pinky"
