[Spridgets] Coil Question

I have gone through a number of coils in the past few years. They may
have been faulty but........

Reading the Lucas repair manual carefully, I came across this "Test 6.
Voltage at *"-" *Terminal of Coil............4. A high resistance in
circuit from the coil to the *CB* on the distributor."

1. Manual was published in 1995 and is for negative earth cars, my car
is positive earth.

2. "CB" is not used on modern coils, they are "-" & "+". When I
connected my coil up "CB" = "+".

This is where my question comes in. "CB" that was "+" in 1959 is now
shown in 1995 as "-". (Logical as the cars are now negative earth)

Does it makes a difference? Were coils designed for positive earth? Am I
therefore running the coil backwards as I am using a coil designed for
negative earth?

Cheers,

Martyn

PS: Standard Intermotor coils, yes I am aware of the Lucas Sport coil
problem, and I believe Lucas/Intermotor may have had an issue (Coils
were replaced over a 5 year period, so I would think I avoided the 'bad
batch" if such existed).
