[Spridgets] 1275 clearance in FROG AYE

Bob,
The problem is not with the trigger wheel. The pre-load is on the motor
mounts. While I would like to have more space between the trigger wheel and
the front cross member (to facilitate eventual fan belt replacement)
removing the trigger wheel has no effect on the motor mounts.

Mike,
I have the same issue with regard to the cam drive (curse you, David
Vizard!) The extra thickness of the timing cover does exacerbate the
clearance problem, but not the pre-load on the mounts. However, I don't
think you will be able to elongate the motor mount to body holes: they are
backed by captive nuts. If you try to elongate the holes in the motor
mount brackets I think you will find that the front bolt has interference
issues with the bracket that holds the motor mount, same with the single
stud holding the mount to the bracket. Elongating the holes on the front
plate that the mounts mate to is similarly a no-go. Perhaps you can
elongate the transmission mount holes, to shift the engine-tranny assembly
back a quarter inch or so, but I'm not certain this wouldn't cause problems
by the back of the tranny (e.g., u-joint hitting the tunnel, which is
already an issue with my car.) And, since the tunnel narrows toward the
rear of the car, I'm not sure this would even be feasible as the mount
would likely be too wide, and it would require pulling the engine which I
am trying to avoid.

Anyone else have this problem? How did you deal with it. I know there are
lots of bugeyes with 1275s and 5-speeds in them.

Hal
