[Spridgets] California smog pump

Question - 1968 Sprite, stock 1075 which includes the smog pump. Is there a benefit to removing the smog pump? Is there a site someplace with "instructions" on how to do it, ie what to plug, what to do to SU carbs, tuning specs, if it does "help"? What about Weber carb use and the smog pump? Or using a Weber in place of the SUs?

Newly purchased little car - fun to play with it. Looking for a few more projects, now
