Or if you want the ride softer you can have the leaves teflon immpregnated. 
No rust issues and the ridge becomes softer due to a reduction in the 
friction between leaves.  Had nine done by POLYDYNE coating in houston tx

Tom Colby at Speedwell Engineering removes 4 leaves from the standard 15 
leaf
spring to soften the rate to an acceptable level.  Two or three leaves 
removed
from the Moss "Rally" spring would probably be just about right.
