"I think that this bugeye could have been built at the Healey factory as a
prototype or special ordered option. It also could have been a car that a
customer had bought new and then brought back to the factory to have a boot put
in."

So let me understand this......

The Heritage Certificate shows the car was dispatched to Hambro, Inc. in the US
rather than being dispatched to Warwick, but the seller -thinks- is "could have
been built at the Healey Factory."

The Heritage Certificate gives no indication of an deviation or options to
standard production, but the seller -thinks- that's possible.

Despite the fact that the Heritage Certificate shows the car was dispatched to
the US, the seller -thinks- that the owner in the US shipped it back to England
for installation of this bootlid.

The condition of this car is one of the worst I've seen, it lacks almost
anything of value in the way of parts, and the seller has zero information on
the bootlid.

Since the air around this subject is one of pure speculation, I will throw-in
mine. Someone took an existing bootlid from some other car, and there were all
kinds of odd vehicles being imported in the 50's/60's, and professionally
crafted an opening for it to fit. There were many experienced body men and
custom car guys around in those days that could have readily accomplished this
project. Craftsmen who knew how to work metal and did so on a daily basis.

If this pile of rust were on my property, I would do whatever was necessary to
get it our of there. I would not waste money trying to sell it on ebay.
