[Spridgets] 3.9 or 3.7 diff wanted

Took the diff to BillM to check out.... we removed it from the housing, got all the metal shavings out of it from the axle. Bill thought the bearings looked great. The backlash was nice and tight. The wear I was seeing was on the shaft that the bearing was pressed onto, not the bearing itself. There wasn't any slop or play in the bearings and they turned freely and smooth. Bill also gave me two replacement axles. I've re-installed everything and the car runs perfect. No vibration whatsoever. How sweet! FIXED AGAIN!.....Oh, wait... Now I can get back to that fuse problem.....

Thanks to everyone who offered help and differentials. This forum is a great tool for us newbies.

I pulled the diff tonite. It had plenty of gear oil in it. The pinon
seal still leaks, but it was not enough to do any damage. The backlash
is really not bad (but then, I'm no expert). My wheel bearing seem to be fine. No other fluid
leaks. One thing I did notice on the half shafts is that one of them
(from the passenger side) has splines that twist and it shows a little
fresh wear right where they start twisting. I checked the manuals and
none of them show this. The driver's side has straight splines. On
the passenger side bearing in the diff, it shows signs of
damage to the inside. This might be where the problem is. All the bearings turn smoothly. I will post pics as soon
as I can. Any thoughts on this? To
change that bearing out looks like a pretty difficult task with tools
and skills that I lack.

looking for a good differential if anyone has one....mine has developed so much backlash that it whines pretty loud at high speeds. The seal went on it recently (don't know when) and after our outstanding backroads drive yesterday, it was all it could take.
