Here's a story to go along with Frank's story about the 1911 Lathe.

On Nov 30, 1926 the steam ship "City of Bangor" went aground on the
rocks along the tip of the Keweenaw Peninsula in Lake Superior in
Michigan's Upper Peninsula. The 26 men on board made it to shore that
night and eventually their ship's cargo of 230 new Chrysler and
Whippet automobiles were also saved. The ship eventually became scrap
to support the war effort in WWII. The cars were being shipped from
Detroit to Duluth. They were eventually sent by rail back to Detroit,
reconditioned and sold.

Here's a link to a one minute oral history along with pictures of the
ship and cars from that period in time. This link is to the third
installment of the story. Just follow the "Previous day" link back to
installments #1 & #2.

Here's a link that shows the snow the folks on land were dealing with
in Calumet Mi. Remember that this was November 30 - hardly even winter yet!

Just heard on the news that the Metrodome in Minneapolis has
