Remove weight from
wheels and grab the wheel at 12 and 6 o'clock and try to rock it. There should
be no play. If there is, the bearing is bad. If the bearing is really shot
(been there) the wheel will clunk. Another indicator of a bad bearing is
strong brake pull to one side on braking, or a noise so bad upon cornering you
can hear it under your helmet.
