Boy, does that sound familiar!  My '67 Mustang blew a heater hose in the middle of an autocross run.  Instantly covered the windshield with steam!  Had to stick my head out the window to see enough to drive off the course.  Then had to keep the excited course workers from using their fire extinguishers inside the car to put out the "fire".  :-) :-) :-)

Plenty of tools around an autocross and I was able to reroute the good heater hose to bypass the heater core until I could buy more.
