I think it had carbon seals and they did not last long.  The metal of the 
walls was also softer, which is why they used soft seals.  But I also think 
that there are modern ceramic racing seals that are harder and smoother, so 
last longer and do less damage to the cylinder walls.  I would not put stock 
seals back into this engine unless the ceramic ones will not fit.
