Did you see what Kevin found on the Ladybug?
I had a bad piston on the rear carb. It fit fine but the hole in the 
stem where the cap goes was ovaled out.
This was the cause of no resistance when the rear piston was raised.
It might not be your problem but it's another new one on me.
