I actually saw the exhibit on this in the Checkpoint Charlie Museum in
Berlin back in 1998. 

As a result of this escape they added vertical posts downward from the
bar.

There was also a display of another vehicle escape where a man hid his
girlfriend inside the passenger seat of a Mini.
