A Santa Ana wind is actually a pretty easy forecast to make... Just
about anyone can do it with a moderate degree of success.

Go to:

The maps in the first column include MSLP (Mean Sea Level Pressure)
forecasts for the next 16 days. Click on a time and you get a 4 panel
chart. The lower left panel is the one you want. It has MSL Pressure
forecasts on it. In short, look for a reasonably strong high pressure
cell somewhere east of Reno, NV with lots of black lines packed
together just south of the "H". These lines are "isobars" (constant
pressure). The closer together they are, the stronger the wind. Of
course, the wind flows clockwise around a high pressure system so with
a high somewhere just east of Reno, the wind will blow downslope out
of the mountains and off into the Pacific - Santa Ana wind!

I know... Way more than you wanted to know..... ;-)
