Larry,
Magnetic particle inspection, sometimes known as Magnaflux, only works
on material that can be magnetized; not magnesium or aluminum. A process
called Zyglo works on nonmagnetic material. 

Yes, you can get a kit, but for a one time deal, I would take the part
either to an airport with a good repair facility, or a USAC checking
station. It takes practice, good technique, and some experience to
reliably find cracks. Would you trust your life to an amateur? How about
a home appendectomy kit....
