I like the "working engine" part.  Get him to demonstrate the engine working.

That's a $100 parts car.  You can get over $100 for the rear chunk on
ebay if it is 3.9 or 3.7 and in decent condition.  If the dual gauge
works there's another $25-50.  BTA 806 axles go for $25-50 easily.
I'd give $100 if it were close enough.  Part it out, you are sure to
find a few things you need.
