Jim,

I don't particularly care for Tony George, but that's not accurate.

Indy, as a facility, went to great expense to make the necessary and required improvements to accomodate F1.

What they did not do, was help promote the sport in a country, the U.S., which has only a small fan base compared to the rest of the world. Of course, Ecclestone, the FIA, and the teams themselves, in particular their factory partners, do nothing to promote the sport in the U.S. either. But that's a whole subject in itself.

As a country, The U.S. has very little understanding of Formula One. And at the moment, the U.S. has very little interest in open wheel racing of any sort. (Thank you Tony)

As a massive F1 fan, I'm not necessarilly sad to see Indy off the calendar. (The road course was but a glorified autocross course, IMO.) I attended 4 times and the facility is certainly something to behold. But I think there should be a USGP somewhere, but NOT Las Vegas.

As for North American, at least there is always Montreal. Actually, I shouldn't say "at least", as Montreal is a much more exciting track than Indy.
