10.0 or 10.5 should be just fine with premium gas.
12.0 and up is where the problems come in.
My kid's first Mini was one of those 12:1 engines.
9 mpg and that's in a Mini! He has learned since then as his current 
Mini runs a stock 1275.
When my engine was new, it was 10:1 and ran fine even on the mid grade 
of unleaded.
