What year is your frame?  The original front was for the plastic hinge 
covers, the heavy adapter you mention is for the rubber hinge coverss, 
and the frame with the tall integral brackets is for the late-model 
rubber bumper.

Does that help?  I can probably conjure up photos of the different 
mounts if you need them.
