I have a set of wired Bose headphones from about 2012 (wow) and while they work (not 100% noise reduction but enough that I keep using them), the wire gets in the way, the fuselage noise gets transmitted directly to my skull when I lean against the plane wall, and my ears get sweaty since there is no breathability.
I haven't tried anything else yet, but the cool kids are using bluetooth earbuds. I hear great things about the Apple Airpods. They can even tell when someone is talking to you and will reduce the noise cancellation temporarily. But they are easy to lose/forget. Maybe try a super cheap pair of wireless earbuds to see what you think for short money?
