[Shop-talk] Leaf springs replaced - what to do with them?

I think Dad knew more about metalworking than I. Think he forged it rather
than grinding. It was of course spring steel, and I think he knew how to
treat it. Oil or water quenching, that sort of thing.

I don't know when or where he made it. Mechanics Arts High School?
Superior Packing? Steve Ethier and Sons Keating? US Navy? Surely not at
the City of Saint Paul Building Department, but in those years the family
business was still in operation. He also had buddies all over town who had
businesses in the trades.

My guess is that he forged the ends first and then put in the small bend,
then put in the big bend. I would not be surprised to learn that the edges
of the main part are original.

I'm sure there are folks on Shop-talk who know just how to do this.

I have not checked YouTube yet, but it's probably there.
