re: '... everyone says it "Can Not Communicate with the scanner."'

'Everyone?' Presumably, this is a message displayed on your computer? If
it's a message displayed on the MFD, if it has a display, then it's an
issue internal to the device.

I used to be a disciple of HP quality; after all, I worked for HP for
over 13 years (and got employee discounts). But, after a series of
failures I started buying my printers/MFDs from Canon, and have been
happy with the performance, quality and service for a couple decades.
HP's once-legendary quality went down the crapper when,
'coincidentally,' Carly Fiorina was given the reins, and the
battle-hardened, bureaucratic infighters from Compaq took control. Case
in point: Arguably the most popular handheld calculator--at least with
financial types--is the HP12C. I've purchased, over the years, 5 or 6 of
them but the last couple I bought were all but unusable. The newer ones'
keys were so stiff you had to mash them really hard and you'd get
unintentional repeats; e.g. you press '0,' and get '00000.' They're now
collecting dust and the older models are still serving me well.

I think you have to byte[sic] the bullet and put your $250 towards a new
printer/MFD (esp. if *you didn't change anything* and the printer
started acting-up on its own; communications chips do fail
occasionally). Canon's good, but I've heard good things about Epson as well.
