I'm calling on the brain trust here !!!

Assuming Windows, have you tried removing it from your printers list and letting the system reinstall it?

Is it USB connected? Maybe (assuming you haven’t already done so) try a different cable? Grasping at straws…

Plus 1 for VueScan. Ed is an incredible guy and the software simply works! You can D/L it and see if/how it works. You'll
get watermarks until you pay for it but
you'll know it works before you do. It was recommended by a friend on the editing list I've
been on since the mid
'90s. I used it for maybe 15 minutes and bought the lifetime licence. At some point Ed made it cross-platform and my lifetime licence was grandfathered so I can scan using my Brother MFC from any of my Macs or PCs. Inarguably the best $100 I ever spent on software!

trying to copy some documentation on my tools and my scanner refuses to
cooperate. It used to work. It's a HP m1217 nfw multifunction printer. I've
reloaded all the proper up to date drivers
run diagnostics on hardware and all is fine.. reset to factory settings...
tried several different scanner software packages including HPs version and
everyone says it "Can Not Communicate with the scanner."
Tried an online tech support outfit that said it was a virus preventing it from
working and for 250 bucks they would fix it... well, thanks but no thanks. Ran
several malware and virus programs and found one
PUP file and removed it . After that redid all above and same result... Hope
someone can tech me up on this and get this piece of printer working
again...and all other printer functions work fine
thanks
