[Shop-talk] DeWalt 18V battery replacement

Howdy,

I don't know how big a deal this really is, but I've heard that the tools
designed for Li-Ion batteries have protection circuits / smarts so that
they don't over-discharge the Li-Ion battery or whatever. I've certainly
heard of Li-Ion batteries catching fire / whatever if they're abused.

Because of that, when my 18v NiCad Milwaukee stuff needed some love about 4
months back I bit the bullet and upgraded to the new Li-Ion tool hotness.
It wasn't the cheapest thing I've ever done, but I'm super happy about the
improvements in cordless tools in past the 8 to 15 years. Much lighter
weight, more power, and more runtime. Hard to go wrong with any of that.
:-)
