[Shop-talk] (old ass) powered antenna question

Hi Tim:

 

I don't know for sure whether the antenna would take the extra volts.  I
guess it depends on the specs and tolerances of the components.

 

On the other hand, a quick search shows you can get a 6v power supply with a
round plug fairly cheap.  I see one on Amazon for $6.00, the plug is 2.1mm
ID, 5.5mm OD, center positive.  I'm sure you can find whatever you need, and
not risk damaging the unit.

 

On the other-other hand, you could go in the shop and make an antenna from
some wire you have laying around.  There are a gazillion articles on google.

I acquired a powered VHF/UHF/FM antennae today--I do not yet know if it
works. It has to be 30+ years old.  I am hoping to use it in my shop to
boost the piss poor FM reception of the stereo I have out there. It requires
one of those round 6V power plugs. I have one on hand that is a 7.5V
version. 

 

What I am wondering is will the 7.5 volt plug damage the antennae if I use
it? Should I just play it safe and get a 6V plug?
