[Shop-talk] Shop fire mitigation

Thanks.

I started building my shop in 2000 but didn't get it finished until 2004. My
wife & I did most of the work with some help from friends putting up the
shell. The exterior survived pretty well, but the inside is pretty shot. We
used Hardieboard and Hardietrim on it. It's two stories, 1200 sq. ft. down
(shop) and 900 sq.ft. up (Apartment).

Floor trusses are shot and need to be replaced. Most of the shop studs are
fine, but some need to be replaced. The insurance company totaled it & sent
us a check. I am working on getting bids now for subs but will probably do
most of the work myself.

ServPro gave us a bid of $4000 to clean the walls and ceilings in the
apartment, which I am going to have them do once the floor is replaced.
Their work will get us ready for a good coat of Kilz and a repaint. I expect
it will take at least 6 months to get the shop ready to start moving tools
back in to.

The shop was set up for vehicle maintenance on one side and woodworking on
the other. It worked very well so I don't plan on making many changes.

I'd attach some pictures but I think they will be stripped by the listserv.

Oh well, this will pass.

As my grandfather used to say "Eat a live frog every morning and nothing
worse can happen to you all day".

Peace,

Pat

Wow, sorry to hear it. I don't know the answer to your question, but I do
wish you the very best in getting it all back in shape. That had to be
tough, totally unanticipated event that you were not planning to deal with.
I think your shop is quite new, too, if I remember some discussions.

best,

doug
